Flamenco

One of my absolute favourite motifs is flamenco dance, and not without reason. Many years ago I was on an art school in Vestjylland, where there was a parallel flamenco course. Curious as I am of course, I just had to explore that flamenco.

I thought basically it was a little silly with Danish women who had to copy a different culture. OK – I got wiser. To stomp the floor without being called a hysterical woman. That was prefect for my hefty temperament, that didn´t fit in  through  the 50s child rearing, where little girls had to be nice and quiet with no strong feelings.

Female Energy

And another thing:The flamenco woman is a strong woman who is also super feminine. I found out that the women do not have  to be either weak, or get rid of the female-energy and become manly. Here is a full power female-energy.

It is the energy that concerns me, and I would like to convey – both when I am acting as flamenco dancer, when I teach, and not least in my paintings and sculptures. The fact that I am both an artist and dancer gives a unique dimension to both the dance and the arts as well.

It can be difficult to portray a subject that you do not know and can feel inside, but as a dancer, I can almost get the people in the paintings to move because I can feel their movements while I paint them.
